"Marginality"

​

The life of an immigrant is similar to the life of a frog in a pond.

They are a minority - vulnerable to fish underwater, and preyed upon by mammals on the surface.

Yet, frogs have the privilege of crossing boundaries of both planes.

For this reason, I want to express immigrants as a "marginality," not a minority.

 

Many immigrants takes on challenges to pursue new dreams.

While countless stories feature immigrants who have already settled,

only a few portray those in the midst of the challenges of immigrant life.

After all, it is a life on the periphery, rather than that of a grand protagonist.

 

However, I consider this as a marginality, not a minority.

It is a new domain that can cross the boundaries between surfaces.

Western Avenue highlights the stories of such active stories.

It is not an epic for the successful ones,

but a memoir of very ordinary heroes who pours all effort into surviving amid failures and defeats.
